Space agencies, Google seek ways to save world's forests

"The only way to measure forests efficiently is from space," says Jose Achache, director of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), an international project that will monitor forests by satellite to fight global warming. Governments, space agencies such as NASA and Google Inc are joining in the new partnership to measure forests, which would make annual assessments of forest carbon stocks, compared to a current five-year cycle.
