New England conservation efforts fighting forest loss
Posted on Monday, June 7, 2010A recent report from the Harvard Forest warns that all six New England states are experiencing a decline in forest cover. Forested areas have come under increasing pressure from a new wave of commercial development, industrial use and invasive species. The report makes a series of recommendations, including long-term conservation efforts to protect at least 70 percent of the region, or 30 million acres, as forest land permanently free of development.
